Google Maps Introduces Immersive 3D View for Advanced Itinerary Exploration
Google officially announces the launch of its new immersive 3D view for routes on mobile apps (iOS and Android). This feature offers an unprecedented experience for users, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in their journey from A to Z. Currently, this new feature is only available in certain major cities, including Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tokyo, and Venice.
Remember that Google unveiled immersive 3D view at its annual conference, Google I/O, last May. This innovative feature allows users to visually explore roads, surroundings, check traffic conditions, weather, and air quality.
Immersive view already exists to explore iconic places. Perhaps you didn't know it, but it's already possible to explore certain iconic sites of major cities in immersive 3D view. For example, if you search for the Eiffel Tower in the Google Maps app, you'll have the option to discover an immersion presenting the monument and its surroundings.
By performing a simple search, you can virtually fly over places like Westminster, to admire up close the neighborhood and impressive architecture of sites such as Big Ben, as Google explained during the presentation of this feature.
Google Lens in Maps for visual searches
Another exciting update concerns “Lens in Maps” (formerly called “Search with Live View”). This feature lets you discover nearby places when you reach your destination. For instance, when you exit a subway station, you can more easily locate the nearest coffee shop.
Already available in Paris, “Lens in Maps” arrives this week in more than 50 new cities worldwide, including Austin, Las Vegas, São Paulo, Rome, and Taipei.
